Pascal Gallet
piano
“Pascal Gallet, a pupil of Yvonne Loriod, plays magnificently throughout and is clearly in tune with [Jolivet’s] music. He plays the shorter pieces for all they are worth, with verve and lightness of touch, whereas his performances of the weightier works have obviously benefited from meticulous preparation of these difficult scores and from a deep belief in the music’s indomitable strength”.
—My Records of the Month
Hubert Culot

Pascal Gallet made his television debut at the age of ten and subsequently won a First Prize from the Paris Conservatory in 1987, where he studied with Yvonne Loriod and Pierre Reach, eventually becoming a disciple of Teresa Llacuna.

A specialist in the performance of modern piano works, Pascal Gallet made the first recording of Manuel de Falla’s Concert Allegro, and the first solo recording of music by Joaquin Turina. Olivier Messiaen dedicated two of his bird catalogues to him (La Rousserolle Effarvatte and Le Merle Bleu), and he has embarked on a project to record the complete piano music of André Jolivet.

He has appeared at the La Salle Gaveau, the Châtelet Theatre and the Lyon Opera House in France, has toured in Taiwan, Germany, China and Japan, and has been featured soloist with French orchestras in Brittany and the Savoy, with the Calgary Philarmonic in Canada and the Duisburg Orchestra in Germany, and on a national tour of Mexico with the Philharmonic Orchestra UNAM.

Pascal Gallet has won awards at international competitions in Viotti-Valsévia, Porto, Trapani, Vierzon and from the Menuhin Foundation.

Among his less traditional concert activities, he has appeared with François Renée Duchâble in the complete Bach concerti for two, three and four pianos in Four Pianos in the Snow at Semnoz, opposite Mont-Blanc at an altitude of 1,700 meters (5,577 feet).

Since June 2001, Pascal Gallet has been the artistic director of the “Pentecôtes Musicales” Festival at the Abbaye de Fontmorigny in the Val d’Aubois near Nevers.

Pascal Gallet’s repertoire features numerous modern works such as Nocturne IV by Thierry Pecou, Post Card by Henri Fourrés and Fieber-fantaisie by Jork Widmann. His recordings have also attracted a great deal of attention : the world premiere of Manuel de Falla’s Concert Allegro made at the studios of radio France, Musique d’Europe and Trios by Vinvent d’Indy and Fauré, and his first solo record of music by Joaquin Turina which led the press to compare him to the young Alicia de Larrocha.

Pascal Gallet is a regular at such international festivals as Villevielle, Naples, Geneva, Kiev, Detmold, Kitzingen, where he performs both as a soloist and in chamber music. He was recently invited to be on the jury for the 6th Horowitz International Competition.

In 2009, he will tour Brasil, Serbia and Albania, make a live recording of a concerto by Patrice Sciortino, and perform Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphonie with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
