Alain Trudel wins Heinz Unger Award
Toronto, May 9, 2008 – Alain Trudel is the latest recipient of the Heinz Unger Award.
FACTS
· Alain Trudel is Principal Conductor and Musical Director of l’Orchestre Symphonique de Laval, Principal Conductor of the CBC Radio Orchestra, and Conductor of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra.
· The purpose of the Heinz Unger Award is to encourage and highlight a young to mid-career Canadian professional music conductor. It is the only Canadian award for conductors.
· This biennial national award carries a value of $9,000 and is administered by OAC.

The Heinz Unger Award jury’s unanimous decision recognizes Alain Trudel’s artistic vision and his demonstrated commitment to orchestral life and music in Canada. His work speaks to how music conductors should relate to and reach out to an orchestra’s community as well as an incredible ability to speak to an audience. He has been involved in unique artistic collaborations across the country including arts education programs that have engaged young people. The panel considered Trudel to be a future leader in the orchestral Canadian music community.
