Set during the period of reconstruction, this story of racial uplift reflects the great hunger for education in African American communities after the Civil War. Never performed in Joplin’s lifetime, this brilliant work draws on both African American and 18th century operatic traditions. Featuring talented Chorale alumni in principal roles.
