This inspired program includes Burn 5 & Ray Pleasure electronics and video projection, by Peter Hannan who has
previously been commissioned by the Vancouver, Winnipeg, and CBC
Symphony Orchestras. Hard Rubber Orchestra leader, John Korsrud
will perform his original, Speck, for trumpet and tape, as well as
Concise Rendezvous in collaboration with dancer, Josh
Siddall, known for his eclectic influences, will conduct the VCC
Gamelan Ensemble as they fill the VCC Atrium with his Lil Monster
Dreams of Birds. Juno-nominated clarinetist, Francois Houle, will
present Vancouver New music director, Giorgio Magnanensi’s Come
inutile ornamento. And this tour de force showcase of our city’s
finest concludes with his own work, House of Commons, featuring an
army of local clarinetists.
New Music in New Places is an innovative concert series presented
by the Canadian Music Centre, designed to bring Canadian
contemporary music out of the concert hall and into the lives of
Canadians.
Future New Music in New Places events: Jan. 6 – RedShift Music
presents the “Slide Rule” Trombone Choir in Dzunukwa, specifically
commissioned Canadian pieces inspired by the power, bounty, and
potential danger of BC’s natural beauty, appropriately presented in
UBC’s Forest Sciences Center; March 28 – vocalist, Heather Pawsey
presents a “movable feast” of Canadian works in the late Arthur
Erikson’s Museum of Anthropology.
