ABOUT THE COMPOSER
Composer Simon Bertrand has distinguished himself as one of the most active and recognized Quebec composers in Canada and abroad: For the past 20 years, his music has literally toured the world, performed by symphony orchestras on several continents, such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National d'Ile-de France, and his music has also been heard in Japan, Korea, Holland, Denmark, Italy, the United States, and many other countries by various ensembles and soloists.
Recipient of numerous awards ("Composer of the Year" at the 13th OPUS Awards Gala, Prix Collégien de Musique Contemporaine, Grand Prize at the Busan Maru International Composition Competition (Korea)), his music was the subject of a monographic concert-portrait by the Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec, entirely dedicated to his music. Among his current projects are a musical setting of the poetry of the American author Paul Auster, in collaboration with the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, and a concerto for theremin, inspired by the life of its inventor.
