About Arthur Anold

Dutch-born conductor Arthur Arnold leads captivating performances with prominent symphony orchestras around the world. Music Director of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra since 2012, Arnold returns to Russia to conduct the Master Series in the Grand Hall of the historic Moscow Conservatory. With unstoppable energy and a conviction that music deeply connects, Arnold inspires musicians to perform with heart and passion. 

On the international stage, Maestro Arnold has worked with orchestras in Europe, North America, and Asia, and appeared at international festivals. Maestro Arnold is cofounder and Artistic Director of the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy (PRISMA) Festival on Canada’s west coast. 

Recent engagements included concerts with the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice, Poland, the Spokane Symphony Orchestra in the USA, a three-week concert tour through China with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, a new opera production with Pacific Opera Victoria and recordings for the Canadian Broadcast Company with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Arthur Arnold, d’origine néerlandaise, dirige dans le monde entier les concerts captivants d’orchestres de premier plan. Directeur musical de l’Orchestre symphonique de Moscou pour une septième saison, il rentre aussi en Russie pour prendre dans la Grande Salle de l’historique conservatoire de Moscou les rênes des Master Series. Doté d’une énergie irrésistible et convaincu que la musique constitue un lien profond entre les êtres, Arnold insuffle aux musiciens de partout des interprétations remplies de cœur et de passion. 

Sur la scène internationale, le maestro Arnold a travaillé avec des orchestres d’Europe, d’Amérique du Nord, d’Asie, et a participé à des festivals internationaux. Maestro Arnold est le directeur artistique du Festival PRISMA (Académie d’été Internationale de musique de la région du Pacifique) sur la côte ouest-canadienne. 

Arnold a étudié la direction d’orchestre avec Anton Kersjes et Hans Vonk qu’il a accompagné comme chef assistant pendant plusieurs années.

Programmes and projects

The Mosolov Project

In Russian libraries Arnold discovered lost manuscripts of Alexander Mosolov and recently performed and recorded his Fifth Symphony (1965), Harp Concerto (1939) and Turkmenian Music (1932) in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. The CD that draw attention for al over the wolrd is released on the Naxos label. The next phase of the project Arnold will be the world premieres of Mosolov’s 1958 and 1962 symphonies in Moscow. These works will be recorded on the Naxos label.


The Wild Canadian Year

Winner of the Canadian Screen Award for Best Science or Nature Documentary, CBC’s legacy series The Wild Canadian Year is now available as a film with live orchestral performance designed for the concert hall. 

Experience the dynamic orchestral score by award-winning Canadian composer Tobin Stoked that complements stunning cine-matography by Jeff Turner. The original score — recorded by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra with conductor Arthur Arnold — is now a full symphonic work of abundant colours and contrasts.

Educational projects

Maestro Arnold is co-founder and Artistic Director of the PRISMA Festival & Academy, the Pacific Region International Summer Music Association on Canada’s west coast. The annual event attracts world-renowned musicians and top international music students from institutes such as Juilliard, Eastman, and Peabody, and draws over 7000 concertgoers to daily musical events. Arnold is the Music Director and conductor of the PRISMA Festival Orchestra, the premier ensemble at the festival. Arnold leads master classes for upcoming conductors, both at the PRISMA and in Russia with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra.
