Le compositeur Jeffrey Mumford, né à Washington DC en 1955, est récipiendaire de nombreux prix, bourses et commandes.
Il a entre autres reçu un Prix Musique de l’Académie américaine des arts et des lettres, une bourse de la Fondation Guggenheim et une bourse Aaron Copland de l’ASCAP, en plus de remporter l’édition inaugurale du Concours de composition du Festival National Black Arts/Orchestre symphonique d’Atlanta. Il a reçu de nombreuses bourses, dont celles du Conseil des arts de l’Ohio, de Meet the Composer, du Fonds Martha Baird Rockefeller, de la Fondation ASCAP et de l’Université de la Californie.

Les projets en cours incluent resonant layers of floating light, une nouvelle œuvre pour le String Orchestra of New York City (SONYC) créée en novembre dernier, cavernous echoes of expanding brightness, un concerto pour harpe dédié à Anne-Sophie Bertrand qui sera présentée au Congrès One Harp World à Toronto en juillet 2026, floating layers interwoven in expanding brightness, un double concerto pour violon et violoncelle dédié à Lauren Cauley et Mariel Roberts, dont la première sera présentée en février 2026 avec l’Orchestre symphonique de Columbus, ainsi qu’un nouveau concerto pour violon, paths floating in a forest of blossoming and resonant portals, dédié à Miranda Cuckson et commandé par l’École de musique Eastman, dont la première sera jouée par la Philharmonie d’Eastman, dirigée par Brad Lubman, pendant la saison 27-28. Son nouvel album de concerti récents, echoing depths, vient d’être lancé par Albany Records / Parma Recordings (TROY 1948).
Born in Washington, D.C. in 1955, composer Jeffrey Mumford has received numerous fellowships, grants, awards and commissions.
Awards include the "Academy Award in Music" from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, a Fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation, and an ASCAP Aaron Copland Scholarship. He was also the winner of the inaugural National Black Arts Festival/Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Composition Competition. Other grants have been awarded by the Ohio Arts Council, Meet the Composer, the Martha BairdRockefeller Fund for Music Inc., the ASCAP Foundation, and the University of California.
His music has been performed extensively, by major orchestras, soloists, and ensembles, both in the United States and abroad, including London, Paris, Reykjavik, Vienna, The Hague, Canada, Russia, Lithuania and Latvia.
Current projects include resonant layers of floating light, a new work premiered by the String Orchestra of New York City (SONYC) last November, cavernous echoes of expanding brightness, a harp concerto for Anne-Sophie Bertrand, to be presented at the One Harp World Congress in Toronto in July 2026, floating layers interwoven in expanding brightness, a double concerto for violin & cello for Lauren Cauley and Mariel Roberts respectively, to be premiered in February 2026 by the Columbus Symphony, and a new violin concerto, paths floating in a forest of blossoming and resonant portals, for Miranda Cuckson, commissioned by the Eastman School of Music, which will be premiered by the Eastman Philharmonia, conducted by Brad Lubman, during the 27-28 season.
